TIMI BERKHASIAT SIRNAKAN BATUK

Pada pengobatan secara konvensional, umumnya obat batuk mengandung senyawa kimia antitusif, dekongestan, ekspektorat atau campuran keduanya. Sebagai alternatif untuk pengobatan penyakit batuk dapat dilakukan dengan menggunakan tanaman timi (Thyimus vulgaris L).  Fungsi utama timi sebagai obat batuk adalah karena adanya senyawa aktif yang terkandung di dalamnya seperti tymol dan carvarol yang bermanfaat sebagai ekspektoran dan anti pasmodik.

Minyak timi dapat dihasilkan dengan cara menyuling tanaman timi yang terdiri dari tangkai dan daun dengan cara penyuling uap dan air.  Rendemen minyak yang dihasilkan berkisar antara1,86-1,97% (M. Januwati, 2012).

Herba timi dapat diolah menjadi ekstrak yaitu dengan mengekstrak simplisia timi yang sudah diolah menjadi serbuk. Ektraksi timi dapat dilakukan dengan menggunakan pelarut etanol 70% dan hasilnya adalah berupa ekstrak kental.

KOMPOSISI KIMIA TIMI

Senyawa aktif yang terdapat pada minyak timi merupakan senyawa phenol dengan komponen utamanya terdiri dari thymol sebesar 30-70% dan carvacrol 70%.  Selain itu di dalam minyak timi juga terdapat senyawa thymol methyl eter 1,5-2,5%, p-cymene, terpinene, linalool, dan juga mengandung senyawa golongan flavonoid yaitu Circineol, 8-methoxycircineol, thymonin dan eriodyctol. Menurut (Joanneet al, 2007; Anonim, 2008) senyawa biphenyl: asam-asam phenolat, termasuk asam rosmarinat.

MANFAAT MINYAK DAN EKSTRAK TIMI

Minyak timi berfungsi sebagai pengencer dahak (sekretolitik), aktivitas ini berkaitan dengan senyawa saponin pada ekstrak (KEMKES., 2011),  dan ekstrak timi dilaporkan dapat meningkatkan sekresi mucus (membantu mengeluarkan dahak dari bronchi) (WHO, 1999). Selain itu minyak timi juga berkhasiat menurunkan tekanan darah dan merangsang sistem pernafasan serta meningkatkan kontraksi ritme jantung pada kelinci percobaan. Kandungan thymol dan carvacrol dari herba timi, bisa sebagai antitusif yang (menyebabkan ngantuk). Minyak atsiri timi menghambat produksi sintesa asam rosmarinatnya yang mempunyai efek anti-inflamsi (anti peradangan), dan thymol dan minyak atsiri juga memiliki efek sebagai antelmintik (membasmi cacing), anti-bakteri dan anti-jamur prostalglandin (KEMKES., 2011). 

Penelitian secara in vitro menunjukkan senyawa aktif thymol memiliki aktivitas sebagai anti-fungi terhadap Cryptococcus neoformans, Aspergillus, Saprolegnia, dan Zygorhynch dan sebagai anti-bakteri terhadap spesies-spesies: Salmonella typhimurium, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli.  Sebagai agen anti-biotik, thymol 25 kali lebih efektif dibandingkan fenol dan relatif lebih aman dibandingkan fenol (WHO, 1999). Minyak atsiri dari timi tidak memiliki aktivitas mutagenik terhadap Bacillus subtilis ataupun terhadap Salmonella. Luteolin yang terkandung dalam timi merupakan anti-mutagen yang kuat terhadap senyawa karsinogen Trp-P-2 (Musa et al., 2004).  Selanjutnya, dari uji klinik secara acak terhadap 60 pasien yang menderita batuk produktif  selama 5 hari pengujian, menunjukkan bahwa sirup timi memiliki efek yang setara dengan bromhexin (Joanneet al., 2007).

Tanaman timi merupakan tanaman multifungsi selain sebagai obat batuk juga bermanfaat sebagai anti bakteri, anti jamur, anti inflamasi, antelmintik dan aromaterapi.  Bentuk produk dari herba timi dapat berupa minyak atsiri, ekstrak dan simplisia.  Metabolit sekunder utama dari herba timi adalah timol dan karvakrol.(Bagem Sembiring/Peneliti Pascapanen Balittro).

Thyme essential oil inhibits the production of acid synthesis rosmarinatnya which have anti - inflammatory effects ( anti- inflammatory ) , and thymol and essential oils also have effect as anthelmintic ( eradicate worms ) , anti - bacterial and anti - fungal prostaglandins ( KEMKES. , 2011) .
In vitro studies demonstrated the active compounds thymol have anti - fungal activity against Cryptococcus neoformans , Aspergillus , Saprolegnia , and Zygorhynch and as an anti - bacterial against species : Salmonella typhimurium , Staphylococcus aureus , Escherichia coli . As an anti - biotic agent , thymol 25 times more effective than phenol and relatively safer than phenol ( WHO , 1999) . Essential oils of thyme has no mutagenic activity against Bacillus subtilis or against Salmonella . Luteolin contained in thyme is a strong anti - mutagenic carcinogens compounds against Trp - P - 2 ( Moses et al . , 2004) . Furthermore , from a randomized clinical trial of 60 patients suffering from productive cough for 5 days of testing , showed that thyme syrup having equivalent effect bromhexin ( Joanneet al . , 2007 ) .Plant thyme plant is a multifunctional addition to the cough medicine is also useful as an anti- bacterial , anti- fungal , anti- inflammatory , anthelmintic and aromatherapy . Product form of the herb thyme may include essential oils, extracts and botanicals . The main secondary metabolites of the herb thyme is thymol and carvacrol .
